The Harriet Apron! As in Ozzie and Harriet! America’s homemaker icon of a past generation.
Harriet happily wore a utilitarian apron all day in the kitchen, the only room of the house she ever seemed to be in on the popular television show of my youth.
In truth, this one is for my mother - Harriet - who also wore an apron, or sometimes a housecoat, while she tidied up, stirred the stew or baked sweet treats.
The apron came off when she heard the RTA bus at the end of the street dropping off my father (nicknamed Ozzie for real) from his suit-and-tie job in the city. Time to apply lipstick and get dinner on the table.
My mother was the queen of Christmas cookies. She baked all day, everyday between Thanksgiving and Christmas so that she could assemble countless white paper doily lined Woolworth’s plastic trays to take to neighbors and shut-ins from the church.
The arrangement of cookies on the tray was like a mosaic. Green marshmallow holly cookies with their cinnamon red hots shone like jewels on the top.
This apron is for her! The All Day Apron that is as pretty as a dress!?
Full apron with a classic simple shape that can cover all your kitchen splatter or be worn as a fun topper for leggings or jeans. This apron is modern twist on a retro style. This smock style apron is sewn from a diagonal red gingham check fabric. Ample pockets, flounce and contrasting details are sewn from a coordinating red and pink floral print. Wide back straps and an open yoke give a loose fitting and comfortable apron style. Bring back the all day apron!
